I saw this on Engagenet. Apparently BENQ is now shipping in Japan. For roughly the equivalent of $760 you can burn BD, DVDs and CDs. I find that interesting and somewhat strange that BENQ can make a recorder that makes CDs, but the new Sony BD player costs $1000 and doesn't play CDs. The bundled software allows you to play BD at a full 1920x1200, of course you need a supporting card and monitor. If this makes it's way to the US soon, I believe that this would have a big effect on the HD format war. If a small production house, such as MCT Images, could get into making true HD content for less than $9000 (computer, camera, burner, and accessories) then that could start tilting wedding and event videographers toward BD. But that's just a guess. What do you think?
On a side note, remember how long it took for CD burners to come out after the CD-ROM, and that the first DVD burners were like a $1000? It looks like the companies are really trying to push HD. I consider that a very good thing.
